The Sustainable City Factory

ExcellencES City-FAB

CityFAB is an institutional project that won the "ExcellencES in all its forms" call for proposals, a program under France 2030 aimed at funding the development of "signature" projects of winning universities.

In line with the scientific project of the I-SITE on sustainable cities and territories and in connection with other projects funded by France 2030 (such as Avid and Forco-VD), CityFAB contributes to strengthening the university in its support for public policies and valorizing the national dimension of the institution.

Established in partnership with CNRS, CityFAB aims to support local authorities near the various campuses of Gustave Eiffel University in their transition pathways through tailor-made action research and the development of training programs and knowledge dissemination initiatives.

Objectives of the Project

Transition pathways refer to strategies for transforming territories to better address sustainability issues. They cover a wide range of challenges including social, environmental, digital, and more.

Starting from the needs expressed by interested local authorities, the objective is to propose scientific programs that include not only a research dimension but also training and knowledge dissemination around learning communities that bring together various stakeholders (researchers, elected officials, technical staff, citizens).

The ambition of City-Fab is to develop 10 projects with 10 territories

Four initial projects have been launched in partnership with:

  • The City of Loos-en-Gohelle in collaboration with the Lens-Liévin Agglomeration Community.

  • The City of Salon de Provence in collaboration with the Aix-Marseille Metropolis.

  • The Dunkirk Urban Community.

  • The Departmental Council of Hauts-de-Seine.

Following in 2024:

  • The Paris-Valley of the Marne Agglomeration Community.

  • The Versailles Grand Parc Agglomeration Community.

Additionally, discussions with other partners are currently ongoing.
